XPSL Event #4 2007
Wednesday, September 19th, 2007The Xtreme Paintball Sports League (XPSL) held Event #4 in Fresno, California at The Regional Sports Park. The all grass venue gave way to some hot paintball action throughout the weekend to equally match the weather.
THURSDAY: Field Walk
Most of us traveling from Nor*Cal into the Central Valley, the weather was a huge contrast. We normally play in low to mid 80’s heat and on Thursday it was in the high 90’s, setting the tone for the weekend. The field setups were up on time for all the teams to walk. Unfortunately, all the teams were caught off guard with the Sports Park closing its doors at 6:30pm. We spent extra time on JT and XPSL, as most of our games were on those two fields.
FRIDAY: Prelims for Novice and Intermediate teams
In the Novice Division, 14 teams registered to compete. After the preliminary rounds, only the “Elite Eight” were able to advance for Sunday’s semi finals. The Brotherhood made the “Sunday Club” along with our fellow Nor*Cal ballers, G4H and X-Bomb.
Our first game of the day was against a very strong Splat Kids team. All we could hope for was to be competitive and put up a good fight but that was not the case. We dropped our first game 0-100. After being blown out, we knew that we needed to step up against G4H. We played better and got 4 kills before their experience got the best of us. Our next two games were on the JT field. We beat Faultline 98-6 and stalemated a very aggressive Rock Star Factory team. Rock Star has been beating us at every tournament but this time we were up on bodies 2-1 before the whistle blew. This gave us the confidence to push harder in our afternoon games. Due to a scheduling and ref error, our comrades from Bad Intentionz Felony played a game against Jester’s Outsiders. How this mistake was made, is beyond me. Not only was it the wrong team but it was teams from two different divisions (intermediate vs. novice) as well. We came out on top 96-12, after playing our rescheduled game against Jester’s Outsiders on the XPSL field. Before our lunch break we picked up an additional 95 points for a BYE. DV8 who normally is a strong contender at the tournaments were a “no show.”
After lunch, we played Dark Image and we shot ourselves in the foot. Off the break we lost 3 players, which just so happened to be our back line. With no support our front and mids got shot out in a matter of minutes, but not before taking 3 players out. Our last game of the day was against Destiny and this was a must win for us to make it to Sunday. We lost our front snake player and our dorrito player, as they moved up to the 50. Our backs and mid players held strong and finished off the game with a 97-9 victory. We ended the day 4-3-1 in the prelims. A vast improvement from our last 2 events, and we made it to Sunday as the number 7th seed.
SATURDAY: Prelims for Rookie teams
We dropped by the field to catch a couple of games but took the rest of the day off for much needed rest and relaxation. We needed time to recoup from a night filled with drinking and hotel room wrestling (BSAUER vs. COLE).
SUNDAY: Quarter Finals, Semi Finals, Finals for all divisions
The best of 3 series for the elite 8 had us matched against the 2nd seed, Tombstone Bruizers. We dropped the first game against Tombstone in quick fashion. We dug deep inside and found the heart to come back and beat them in game 2. We were pumped to say the least going into game 3, but losing our snake corner off the break, Tombstone did an excellent job keeping us out of that key bunker, as their snake player came down the field and eliminating our last 5 players. Any loss is disappointing but we felt proud of the strides we’ve made this season.
The Brotherhood would like to congratulate Bad Intentionz Felony for taking 2nd place in the Intermediate division and Bad Intentionz Misdemeanor for making the quarter finals. This was the first event that all 3 teams made the Sunday club.
