Jean, NV
Jean, Nevada was home to final event of the XPSL 2006 season. The location was not exactly as advertised but it was close enough to Las Vegas. The venue consisted of 4 fields with lots of loose dirt and rocks. All 4 lined up in a large square with the 2 rows of vendor booths running down the middle. Not exactly ideal conditions but it was the last event and there were casinos, bars and the Las Vegas strip just 25 minutes away. I was down to have a good time at all costs!
THURSDAY: Field Walk for Open and Novice teams
As usual, the fields were not completed but we had to make due, since daylight was going quick. We walked all 4 fields in about 3 hours or so. The XPSL brought in lights to help out for the upcoming weekend but the temperature at night was below 30 degrees.
FRIDAY: Prelims for Open and Novice teams
There seemed to be a few more teams in the Open and Novice division this time around. This was probably due to it being the last event of the season or the close proximity to Las Vegas. In any event, all the teams at this event came to play. The cold became a big factor with everyone’s paint and the league allowed us to wear 3 layers of clothing. They openned it up to the top 16, out of the 27 registered teams for the Novice Division to play in the quarter finals. “Vegas” is our home away from home…and we came to play. The Brotherhood won 6 out of 8 prelim games to be seeded in 9th place for Sunday.
SATURDAY: Prelims for Rookie teams
There is never a shortage of Rookie teams. Saturday’s competition always proves to be fierce and great games to watch. With 67 teams fighting for 16 spots in the Sunday Club, all the teams were balling it up all day and well into the night.
SUNDAY: Quarter Finals, Semi Finals, Finals for all divisions
This was only the second event this season that The Brotherhood made it into the Sunday club. We learned a lot and realize that we have much work to do before the 2007 season starts.
After the dust settled in the Rookie division, Pitch Balck took first, followed by Splat Kids in second, Rock Star Factory and Fuzion coming in a respected third and fourth. In the Novice division, Chaos (prev. Old School Hustle) took first place, Drama coming in second, and DV8 in third, followed by Island Breed in fourth. The Open division was fierce as usual with Momma’s Boys Fuzion finishing in first place, Tombstone, Zessou taking second and third, and Capital City Critical coming in fourth.
