XPSL Event #3

Wednesday, August 9th, 2006

Bakersfield, CA

The Kern County Fairgrounds was home to the third XPSL event of 2006. This has to be the best venue so far this season. The venue consisted of 4 grass fields lined up in a large square area with plenty of room for spectators and bleachers. The vendor booths, which seemed to be less than usual, lined down one side of the fields with the player padocks on the opposite side. The heat throughout the weekend was a factor but seemed to be at least 10 degrees cooler than the previous week according to some of the locals.

THURSDAY: Field Walk for Open and Novice teams
As usual, the fields are not complete by 1pm like the league advertises. The XPSL field wasn’t complete by sunset and it was our first field that we played on Friday. This is probably are only gripe at this event but what are you gonna do.

FRIDAY: Prelims for Open and Novice teams
There seemed to be a lesser showing in the Open and Novice division than usual, but the performance of the teams was just the same. All the teams at this event came to play. Only the top eight teams, out of twenty in the Novice division would play on sunday. The Brotherhood squeeked into the quarter finals as the 8th seed, edging out the 9th place team by only 3 points.

SATURDAY: Prelims for Rookie teams
Competition in the Rookie divison always proves to be fierce. With 56 teams fighting for 16 spots in the Sunday Club, all the teams were balling it up.

SUNDAY: Quarter Finals, Semi Finals, Finals for all divisions
This was the first time this season that The Brotherhood made it into the quarter finals. We have a lot of work to do if we plan on being competitive in the Sunday Club. One thing I noticed was that teams we faced in the Prelims, shifted into a higher gear when Sunday came around. This is definately one area that we will be working on.

After the dust settled in the Rookie division, Xclusive-Black ended up taking first, followed by Pitch Black in second, and PBRack.Com and HK Nation coming in a respected third and fourth. The Novice division had some great games with Epic and Recluse ending in a 1 on 1 play-off. Local team, Drama took first place, with Epic coming in second, and Recluse in third followed by Vengeance in fourth. The Open division was fierce as usual withMomma’s Boys Fuzion finishing in first place, Street Hustlers and Tombstone took second and third, with Dark Matter coming in fourth.
